Recommended Assessment
Below is the grading system that the curriculum authors have used for this course. As a project-based curriculum, students understanding is assessed primarily by their web site projects, as would be true in an employment setting. Students are also assessed on daily assignments, group participation, and a student journal.
For instructors who wish to additionally assess student understanding using quizzes and tests, a question bank has been provided for each unit. You can find these on the home page for each unit, beneath the Assessment heading (for example, see the Unit 1 Home page).
Web Site Projects: 50% of grade
- Students are evaluated most heavily on their actual production, as they would be in the world of employment.
- Websites are evaluated based on the website evaluation rubric created collectively by students early in the course (see Unit 1 Module 1), and updated as needed throughout the course.
Required Daily Assignments: 20% of grade
- This is primarily made up of the lessons provided within this course curriculum. The Student Assignment Checklist provides a single convenient page for tracking all assignments.
Group Participation: 20% of grade
- Attendance/tardiness
- Cooperation with classmates
- No off task computer use
Student Journal: 10% of grade
- Students should be encouraged to express what they've learned, and how they've applied it. This can assume many forms:
- An email from teacher to student at scheduled intervals
- A unit posting to an online class discussion list at scheduled intervals
- A student blog, updated at scheduled intervals
