How Stuff Works - 10 points

The Brain's Question of the Day

My Example

For this assignment, you are to make yourself familiar with an amazing web site called Marshall Brain's How Stuff Works.  One of the interesting features available on this site is the question of the day.  Each weekday the staff at How Stuff Works picks a reader submitted question and provides a thorough answer to it.

Spend some time traveling around in this site and check out the different topics that are available. After you familiarize yourself with the site go to the question of the day part and look at the question archive (an archive is a collection of things).  Read through the topics until you find a question that interests you.

I suggest you look in the Computers & Internet category.   There's some interesting articles:  3D printing, urban legends, viruses, and any piece of computer equipment (for example a laser printer).

Once you settle on a question that interests you, you have two main tasks to complete:

Task 1
  • Write a paragraph in Word that tells us the question and summarizes the Brain's answer.

  • Don't just copy and paste his answer - write it in your own words!  Even though you are not copying and pasting from his web site, you should still cite your source, or give credit, to the Brain by making a link back to his site at the top of your page.

Task 2
  • Write a short paragraph that explains WHY you are interested in the question you chose.

Formatting:

  • Double space

  • Arial or Courier, 12 pt

  • WordArt or a large font for heading.

  • Use pictures or clipart as appropriate

  • Name, class & hour at top, aligned to the right

  • You may use bold to emphasize various words, but don't bold whole paragraphs.

  • URL of page you read below heading.  You will get a zero without this.
