Your final output should look like this (but with your name).
Here's how....
(1) Use generated text for your name.
(2) Add the Light Rays VideoFX. Drag the Light Rays (from the left column) up to the text clip......don't drag up one of the light rays presets in the right panel.
(3) Keyframe the effect so that Strength & Sensitivity are 1.0 for the main part of the animation. Make sure that you can read the text at the beginning and end (ie. before the Light Rays begin keyframing). You'll need a total of 4 keyframes minimum. Keyframe the Light Source from right to left.
Try your keyframes about like this:
1: Strength and sensitivity at 0
2: Strength and sensitivity still at 0.
3: Strength and sensitivity set high (maybe 75 or above, set as you prefer). Light source to either right or left.
4: Strength and sensitivity still set high. Light source now set to opposite side.
5: Strength and sensitivity back to 0.
